Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil in Skin Care Products

Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil in Skin Care Products

I started Ca’Mora in 2021 following a year of making and using my organic skin care products while working as a nurse on a Covid unit. My skin was a hot mess and I needed a natural, preferably organic, response so that the ingredients would not interfere with the cleansing chemicals used in the hospital. Sweet almond oil was a major component of the very first body oil that I formulated.

The almonds used to produce sweet almond oil have historically been grown in Mediterranean countries. However, over recent years California has become one of the largest producers of almonds and almond oil as more people become aware of the powerful nutritional benefits that this nut has to offer. The oil is expressed from the almond seed in liquid form. This expressed oil results in a very light, yellow colored oil. The oil used here at Ca’Mora is cold pressed resulting in retention of the natural vitamins and minerals that are present in the sweet almond seed.

Sweet almond oil is a light and very moisturizing oil and is a favorite in skin care products for this reason. This oil is expressed from sweet almonds as opposed to the bitter almonds and is comprised of monosaturated oleic acid, linoleic acid, and saturated fatty acids. When used in cosmetic products, it can quickly and easily absorb into the skin without clogging pores or leaving an oily residue.

Here at Ca’Mora, sweet almond oil is one of the oils used as a carrier oil in our organic body oil collection. They are perfect for aiding in transferring the amazing nutrition found in the herbs that we use into the skin where they can perform their natural magic.

Sweet almond oil has some wonderful benefits for your natural skin. It works well to soothe and heal dry irritated skin. This makes the Ca’Mora organic body oils made with sweet almond oil perfect for use during the winter when our skin is exposed to the harsh elements. Sweet almond oil is one of the best oils for use on normal, combination, dry, or oily skin.

Almond oil is full of vitamin E, and it’s a great source of magnesium, phosphorus, and copper. These vitamins and minerals give almond oil its antioxidant, free radical fighting qualities. Sweet almond oil is also anti-inflammatory and aids in supporting our immunity.

Sweet almond oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids which can you maintain healthy cholesterol levels and support memory improvement. It may help lower your risk for diseases like cancer and heart disease. History reveals that almond oil has been used soothe the skin and treat minor wounds. It has also been used in ayurvedic practices to treat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

I choose to use almond oil because it helps to improve complexion and skin tone. It can serve as a natural barrier reducing moisture loss to the atmosphere from the skin. When moisture is retained in the skin it results in improved softness of the skin.

Finally, almond oil is well known for its antifungal properties. Many athletes use it on their feet to prevent athlete’s foot or help resolve other fungal infections.

Your hair and body can also benefit from almond oil in significant ways. I will address these benefits in future blog posts. Please note, many people have allergies or sensitivities to nuts. It is best to either get tested before consuming almond oil internally or using it in your skincare routine. If you do not suspect an allergy, I encourage you to complete a patch test using the oil before full implementation on your skin.

Sweet almond oil is used as part of the base in all of the organic body oils in the Ca'Mora collection.  Feel free to explore for your favorite scent.  Have you tried products made using almond oil? What are your thoughts on this ingredient?
